Maria Glad, a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner, is a provider of medically supervised weight loss for patients with weight related health concerns. Applying evidence based principles of both traditional and functional medicine, Maria evaluates the whole person to develop their individualized plan of care. She continuously monitors progress and recommends adjustments to their program as needed to assist patients to their goals of improved overall health, comfort, and well-being.
Prior to joining Dr. Voisine in 2015, Maria established a private practice providing weight loss with nutrition health and fitness counseling for individual adults, teens, families and groups. Eventually, she assumed similar roles part-time or as consultant at The Center for Weight Management, Health Coaches, Canna Care Docs and Women to Women Health Care. Currently, her private practice continues to involve workplace and community wellness in addition to private consultation for individuals with complaints of weight loss resistance. Maria digs deeper to identify functional symptoms that may be related to food allergy or intolerance, adrenal stress, emotional and behavioral challenges in lifestyle management, and other weight loss obstacles.
Maria’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hunter College and a Master of Science in Nursing from Columbia University as Family Nurse Practitioner; FNP national board certification is maintained through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is an active member of the Obesity Medical Association, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, and American College of Sports Medicine.
Maria’s prior professional experience includes 15 years at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City as clinician in oncology and bone marrow transplant, for adults and children. Leadership roles in hematology/oncology included operations and data management for national clinical trials and development of department standards of practice and protocols. As nurse practitioner on the Pediatric Surgery Service, Maria established and implemented the Pediatric Pre-op Orientation Program and was assigned to serve on Mount Sinai’s Operating Room Redesign Committee for her recommendations to improve the efficiency of the surgical experience for patients, physicians and staff alike. Publications include a study conducted jointly with surgeons to identify signs of neonatal distress precipitating the need for emergency surgery.
After a 12 year hiatus from her nursing career to home-school her three daughters and live internationally, Maria felt inspired to promote health through teaching. From her own experience with weight loss as effective and lasting treatment for health concerns, a dedication to helping people achieve the same was born.
Today Maria is honored to be a part of the Anew 10 team, working alongside a dedicated staff to help more patients achieve their goals to improve their health by incorporating nutrition, exercise and lifestyle interventions to reverse and prevent diabetes and prediabetes, reduce cardiac and other health risks associated with overweight, obesity and metabolic syndrome, reduce pain and discomfort, and to prepare for best surgical outcomes.
In her spare time Maria enjoys running, gym work-outs, kayaking, hiking, beach walking, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and keeping current on health topics related to her practice. Effectively, Maria welcomes you with an empathetic ear, competence, and a smile.
